Dressing modestly doesn't mean you have to wear an Islamic Abaya or an Amish Plain Dress (although there is nothing wrong with these garments in and of themselves!). There is room for creativity and personal taste within God's perimeters. Here are five ways to spruce up the modest wardrobe without breaking the bank or bearing it all:
- Wear a high collared t-shirt, camisole, or tanks underneath v-necks or shirts with plunging necklines. Wear the tank backwards is it’s too low. Layers are cute!
- Scarves are your friends! They keep you warm, add color, personality, and versatility to an outfit. Plus, they’re cheap and help to cover your cleavage.
- Wear a belt with your jeans. This will keep them from riding too low when you bend over.
- Knee-length (or longer) skirts ensure your panties won’t be seen if you sit down. Pair them with leggings or tights to stay warm in the Winter.
- Avoid materials that enhance or reveal your form in great detail (spandex, Lycra, nylon - stretchy, slinky types of material). Denims, cottons, linens and wool knits instead.

I'm so glad you included a little scarf tutorial. I have some pretty ones but rarely wear them because I can't get them to look right! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was just saying how scarves help her with modesty. I will definitely pass this post along to her!
ReplyDeleteLove these ideas! Especially when I'm nursing, I have trouble with what I *think* will be a modest shirt getting pulled out of place after feeding the baby. I *love* the "scarf for modesty" idea!
ReplyDelete(Oops, didn't mean to publish.) I've also found a longer sweater or shirt make the jeans more feminine and modest and help with the modest nursing dilema.
DeleteThis "Knee-length (or longer) skirts ensure your panties won’t be seen" made me laugh so hard, and drinking a warm cup of tea while reading that part wasn't the greatest idea lol!
ReplyDeleteI put some bloomers on our little girls (even if they wear long skirt and dresses they still have to learn the art of being lady like, while wearing them hehe)
the length of skirt is important (in my opinion) very much so if you have little one. When you have to pick them up all the time, you don't want to be wearing something that would be too short that would come 'up" at the same time as your lifting your little one :-)
thank you for sharing this with us this morning, I really enjoy this post!
Have a great week :-)

Modesty is so important to teach our girls and to model!
ReplyDeleteLayers are great! You can wear any cute top that is not clingy if you just layer it. I admit this is easier to do in the winter, but it is possible in the summer, to. If you need to layer in the summer, but don't want to wear all those layers just sew the layers together and then cut out the excess.
I like how you brought out different fabrics that reveal too much! Another tricky one is skirts that are cut on the bias. I notice that these skirts ride up extra far when you sit down. A skirt may be long enough when you are standing, but when you sit down it is not modest. When in doubt, sit down in front of a mirror to see what others might see or ask someone else to sit across from you to make sure it's all okay.
Just a few more suggestions, Jacinda. Hope you don't mind! :) Love this post!
Great tips, and scarves are so stylish to begin with, so that's an easy and fun way to dress modestly.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite modesty products is from a company called Second Base. Sometimes camisole don't fit me right, they are either too short (which is ok under something a little baggy) or they keep falling down in front (which defeats the purpose lol). Second Base is awesome they just cover your bra so they don't fall down. I wear them under my dresses in the summer and I don't get too hot.

I'm not sure how I missed this one but it's a great one! :) I've always been fascinated with scarves but didn't really get the hang of them, except for just slinging them round and round, ya know? LOL Thanks for the pics!
