Apple Brownies

I celebrated the lifting of bed-rest restrictions by baking these rustic Apple Brownies! Crusty on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, and exploding with juicy apple bits, these squares are exactly what I've been craving. I just didn't know it until I took the first bite. Enjoy!

Apple Brownies | Based on Martha Stewart's Recipe.

Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 large Granny Smith Apples

Directions:

Whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl.

Beat together butter, sugar, and egg with mixer for 2 minutes until pale and well blended.

Peel, core, and chop apples.

Fold apples and flour mixture into egg mixture until combined. Spread batter in a well-buttered, 8x8 baking pan. Bake at 350 until golden brown and slightly firm, for about 40 minutes.

Cool, cut, serve, and enjoy!

  1. I need to try these using whole wheat flour and sucanat. It might change the texture a little but I am sure it would be great.

  3. Wow - Looks yummy! It's probably OK to use another type of apple, right? I have Gala's sitting on my counter that are needing to be used...

  5. My kids and I have these in the oven right now - minus the cinnamon b/c my oldest hates it, and we added a little brown sugar for color. If the final product is as good as the batter, they are going to be great!!!
